CQFD - Complex ontological Queries over Federated and heterogenous Data

CQFD (2019-2024) is a research project funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR).

Project Coordinator

Federico ULLIANA, Montpellier University, LIRMM, INRIA Sophia Antipolis

Scope

Ontology-mediated query answering (OMQA) is a novel paradigm for data access and integration that makes it easier to query legacy databases by exploiting domain knowledge provided by ontologies. In the OMQA approach, ontologies enable a unified view of information over a collection of datasets, by enriching, generalizing, and relating the vocabularies of different data sources. Ontologies also allow one to query incomplete databases, by relying on inference mechanisms including the creation of new values to represent unknown information. The OMQA paradigm is relevant to a wide range of data-intensive applications and its interest has been demonstrated in some recent industrial projects. The goal of the CQFD project is to develop an OMQA framework applicable on heterogeneous data models and deployable over federated polystore systems.
