Guided tour: Palace of the Popes

Benedict xii and Clement vi had the Papal Palace built as one of the largest fortresses of the Middle Age. Starting in the 15th century, the Palace was occupied by the Legates and Vice Legates, and altered into military barracks up to 1906. It has since been restored many times. The Palace of the Popes is full of incomparable treasures for the study of architecture and painting in the 14th century, with work by architects Pierre Poisson and Jean De Louvres, and painter Matteo Giovanetti who did the magnificent frescoes in St John and St Martial Chapels.

Gala Dinner

The second step of the social event is a banquet in a famous restaurant of Avignon: the 83.Vernet. The restaurant is located down town in the central and histori- cal part of the city. The interior of this old building has been totally renovated, and the very modern style decoration gives a very charming flavor to the old stone made building.
The dcis attendees will be offered a friendly aperitif in a relaxed ambience before to enjoy the gastronomic menu prepared by the "chef" in a typical French cooking tradition with references to the local "Provence" specialities.

The restaurant is located at a walking distance of the Popes' Palace, around 8 or 10 mn walking-distance. Participants are invited to meet directly at the restaurant entrance at 8 pm. Restaurant address: 83 Rue Joseph Vernet, 84000 Avignon.
