Title: Nerve Computer Interface for the somatic and autonomic nervous system

Abstract
The presentation will focus on the design of a nerve-computer-interface (NCI) for somatic and autonomic nervous systems. In somatic nerves, a method to selectively extract fascicular information from the sciatic nerve using multi contact nerve cuff electrodes will be presented. The amount of information recovered from the sciatic nerve will be calculated. In the autonomic nervous system, the design is a novel highly flexible interface will be discussed. The interface is designed to have dimensional and mechanical properties similar to single axons. This carbon-nano-tube (CNT) device has been implanted in the vagus nerve and glosso-pharengeal nerves of rodents and the chronic recordings obtained will be presented.
