Integration and Design of Energy Aware Circuits and Systems
IDEA group focuses on research and development of models, simulation, analysis and physical design for VLSI circuits and emerging technologies such as carbon nanotubes based circuits.
The research topics include from device, circuit to system‐level power, thermal process variation modeling, analysis, design and optimization.
Research topics :
1.Emerging nano-devices & 3D ICs
Emerging issues in CMOS technologies, More-than-Moore technologies, and novel devices (i.e. CNTFETs, FinFet, FDSOI etc.). Co-design and optimization from device, circuit to system for power, thermal, signal integrity.
2.Interconnect modeling and design
Modeling, simulation, and parasitic extraction of interconnects for 2D (i.e. local, intermediate, global) and 3D ICs (i.e. Through-Silicon-Vias). Design and optimization of power and clock network systems. Modeling, simulation, parasitic extraction of interconnects. Power delivery issues in multicore, network-on-chip, 3D ICs and exploring of emerging interconnect technologies (i.e. Carbon nanotubes, grapheme nanoribbons, etc.) .
3. Process variability
Modeling, analysis of process variations effect in devices, circuits and systems. Development of models, tools (i.e. computer-aided design (CAD), SSTA etc.) and flows that take variability into account during the circuit design phase that allow accurate performance analysis and energy performance estimation.
4. Power and Thermal management from Circuit to System-Level
Power and thermal modeling, analysis and optimization for VLSI circuits and systems. From device, circuit, system and package for 2D and 3D ICs. Physical design and optimization algorithms for thermal and power integrity.
5.Carbon nanotube based energy-efficient computing
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) due to their unique mechanical, thermal and electrical properties are investigated as a material for devices and interconnect. Modeling, simulation, and analysis of CNT-based devices and interconnect are explored for designing energy-efficient circuits and systems.
