Library Information

Library resources

There are nearly 8,500 references available at the library, including 5,000 books and conference proceedings, 3,500 publications accessible via our documentation software Alexandrie (magazine articles and articles from international conferences, theses, research reports, contract and patent reports), and 60 current subscriptions to print or electronic periodicals.

Library operation

Borrowing materials

Books and theses may only be borrowed by permanent staff and doctoral students. You may help yourself to the items you need at the library and inform Martine PERIDIER or Isabelle GOUAT. If neither is available, please make sure you fill out a checkout form at the library, indicating the item(s), your name, department (or the name of your host if you are not a permanent resident), code and document number, and the check-out date.
You may not checkout conference proceedings or periodicals, but you may photocopy them at the library. Return borrowed materials directly to Martine or Isabelle, or place them on the table and write the return date on the list next to Martine's desk.

How to register documents

All references (books, proceedings, articles, theses, research reports, articles, contract reports…) are recorded in the documentation database (the Alexandrie application). The LIRMM intranet offers a data entry platform so you can enter your own publications directly(Library/Enter publications).
Enter your publications as soon as possible, and please send us e-mail whenever you receive additional information (such as page numbers) along with corrections and the document number.
Remember to validate twice to make sure we receive your publication!
Thank you
Books:
New books are recorded at the library when they arrive. Then they are flagged in the database as being checked-out and delivered to the requestor.

Conference proceedings:
After attending conferences, all laboratory residents and doctoral students must supply the library with a copy of the proceedings (which will be recorded).

Articles:
Magazines and periodicals are recorded at the library upon arrival, automatically if the item is a laboratory subscription, and upon request if the subscription was taken out using a particular department's own budget.

Theses :
All theses defended at the LIRMM must be recorded in the library. Please follow this procedure:
1- Using the Intranet, go to Library/Enter publications and fill in the on-line form (title, summary and keywords in French and English, as well as the defense date, jury specialization and composition). You may also attach an electronic version of your thesis in .doc, .pdf or .ps format.
2- Supply the library with several printed copies of your thesis for recording and future internal and external consultation.

Publications and research reports:
All publications and research reports should be registered, and texts delivered to the library. Follow the procedure described for using the Intranet to enter thesis information (see above). A number is generated automatically for research reports after each entry using the LIRMM Web site. Don't forget to include an electronic version of your document if you wish. There are no particular copyright issues for research reports. However, for publications you should make sure that you are aware of your rights and responsibilities. Check your publisher's policies for more information.

Placing orders

As a resident or doctoral student (with your thesis director's approval), you may ask the library to purchase books and order articles. The Board and/or departments make decisions concerning new subscriptions to periodicals. In addition, you may order items yourself using the Web, after first checking for availability in the various magazines that we can access through BiblioSTIC or Universités (BIU). Please come see us at the library if you have any questions.

Books:
To order books, all you have to do is give Martine the exact references so she can process the order. When an item arrives, it will be recorded at the library, flagged as checked-out, and delivered to the requestor. Departments cover the cost of new books, except those that are for general usage (dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc.), which are taken out of the main budget

Articles:
If you can't find an article you need in the library's documentation database, you may order it via INRIA or INIST by using the LIRMM Web site.
