Robotics Department

LIRMM’s robotics department constitutes one of the vital forces of robotics in France and internationally. The department is comprised of 30 researchers and lecturer-researchers (as of October 1, 2009).

The main research themes in the robotics department are:
  • Design of mechanical systems,
  • Modeling, identification, control,
  • Perception.

The department’s privileged field of application is health-related robotics applications (medical, handicaps), with activities that also include fields such as industry manufacturing and robotic exploration.

Five project-teams, each of approximately the same size, cover the following research themes.

Project-teams
Robotic applications
DEMAR: Deambulation and Artificial Movement (joint LIRMM – INRIA project / joint Microelectronics and Robotics department project)
Physical therapy and functional replacements, handicaps
DEXTER: Design and control of robots for manipulation
Medical robotics, rapid manipulation robotics
ICAR: Image and Interaction (joint Informatics and Robotics department project)
Robotic vision, medical imaging
IDH: Interactive Digital Humans
Haptic interaction, humanoid robotics
NERO: NEtworked Robots
Sub-marine and land exploration robotics, control architecture for robots
