"Engineering Cyber Physical Systems"

Résumé
Cyber Physical Systems consist of networked embedded devices, which interact directly with their physical environment in order to control dynamic processes of physical, technical or even social nature.

Examples reach from traffic control for aircrafts and automobiles, autonomous control systems for aerospace applications over collaborative swarm robots or distributed sensor/actor networks to the smart power-grid. Even a highly integrated many-core processor system which controls and observes its environmental conditions can be considered a CPS.

Engineering this type of systems goes far beyond embedded systems design in terms of complexity, heterogeneity, flexibility or adaptivity. Their direct interaction with the outside world poses great challenges with respect to their trustworthiness, reliability of remote nodes, availability in critical missions, safety to protect lifes and goods, and security.

All these challenges have to be addressed during engineering. Means are fault tolerance, online test and diagnosis, verification or encryption. CPS open a new and important research area, and this talk will discuss some of the first steps.
