Vendredi 15 Octobre à 10h30 Salle des séminaires, LIRMM Current HPC activities in Brazil Alvaro Coutinho, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil Résumé In this talk, I will provide a historical perspective on HPC development in Brazil. The major achievements on High Performance Computing (HPC) research and applications will be reviewed and discussed. Brazil has today one machine ranked #86 in the top 500 list, and in addition to this machine, I will show that there is a lot of HPC activities on academia as well as in industry, particularly in the oil and gas and aircraft industries. Grid iniciatives will also be brought into the discussion, particularly those linked to High Energy Physics cooperative projects. Funding for HPC in Brazil will also be discussed. Finally I will discuss the cyberinfrastructure of the Brazilian Public HPC system, the Galileo Research Project, that uses the #1 machine in Latin America and other initiatives under way, particularly the Brazil-France Petaflop project. |
