Aujourd'hui il ne reste que 3-4 malheureuses voies  quai, ce qui est du reste bien suffisant pour l'unique train d'Amtrak la desservant (le <I>California Zephyr</I>) et le <I>Ski Train</I> le weekend. La taille et le luxe du BV attestent de la spendeur passe du lieu (et la salle des pas perdus avec ses banquettes en bois est dlicieusement dsute...), le terrain vague en chantier au premier plan est l'ancien plateau de voies. Nowadays, only 3-4 tracks remain in Union Station, more than enough for the two daily Amtrak trains (California Zephyr) and the Ski Train on weekends. The size and luxury of the depot remind us that the station has known better times (and the large main waiting area with its wooden benches is like travelling back in time...), the construction area in the foreground is where additional platforms and yard used to be. Union Station came close to be completely scrapped in the mist of the many real estate projects for remodeling downtown Denver, but today its future seems secured even though it's no longer a through station.</I> </FONT></P> </TD></TR> <TR><TD VALIGN="Top" WIDTH=370> <BR> <UL TYPE="Disc"> <LI> <FONT FACE="Times" SIZE=3> <B>Le <I>Ski Train</I></B> </FONT> </UL> <P ALIGN="Justify"> <FONT FACE="Arial" SIZE=2 COLOR="#25399C"> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Le Ski Train tait un train du Rio Grande qui emmenait les gens de Denver jusqu'a Winter Park, une station de sport d'hiver (et d't) renomee situe  2h de Denver, immdiatement  l'ouest du <I>Moffat Tunnel</I> (de 10km de long sous le <I>Continental Divide</I>). Aujourd'hui la tradition continue et le <I>Ski Train</I>, maintenant assur par une socit indpendante, continue  emmener  la montagne les citadins de Denver le weekend. Il est compos en majorite de matriel de rcupration: des voitures coach d'origine VIA Rail et construites par Hawker-Siddeley (avec des bogies bizarres  disques de frein externes), et de quelques voitures prives (que l'on peut louer), dont une dme et une <I>Business Car</I> (la seule voiture du <I>Ski Train</I> d'origine Rio Grande). <BR><BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Depuis cette anne, la traction du <I>Ski Train</I> est assure par 3 F40PH d'Amtrak en leasing (rendues disponibles par la livraison  Amtrak de nouveaux diesels Genesis). Today the Ski Train is operated by a private company and still brings tourists and people of Denver to the mountains on weekends. Most of the Ski Train consist is used equipment, a lot of coaches are ex-VIA Rail cars built by Hawker-Siddeley (with weird trucks). Several private cars are available for charter, including one dome, and one business car (the only genuine Rio Grande car of the train). <BR><BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Since 2001, the Ski Train is pulled by 3 F40PH on lease from Amtrak (since many new Genesis have now been delivered, a lot of F40PH are available). It has a 2-axle truck on one side and a 3-axle truck on the diesel side obviously heavier.</I> </FONT></P> </TD></TR> <TR><TD VALIGN="Top" WIDTH=370> <P ALIGN="Justify"> <FONT FACE="Arial" SIZE=2 COLOR="#25399C"> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Deux voitures dmes entrent l aussi dans la composition de la rame. <BR><BR>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;L'amnagement intrieur des voitures coach datant des annes soixantes est spacieux (c'est climatis bien entendu...), le pas des siges est trs gnreux et les siges eux-mmes sont confortables et sophistiqus: dossier inclinable  45 degrs, repose-mollets dpliable et repose-pieds sur le sige de devant, le tout inversible selon le sens de la marche. Bref, rien  envier  un sige business class sur un vol long courrier! Le confort de roulement est par contre moins bon.
