Nevertheless most knowledge based systems are still developed from scratch. This discrepancy motivated the special theme of the next European Knowledge Engineering Forum. Papers are welcome in any area concerning reuse in the engineering of knowledge based systems, including (but not limited to): o reuse of problem solving methods (PSMs): what is being reused? What is the level of granularity (building blocks, fragments, projects,...) and of description (conceptual, implementation code, etc.)? What type of description is used (formal, semi-formal, other)? How are selection, configuration and instantiation supported (features, competence model, use context/episodes) o reuse of knowledge / ontologies: problem type specifications (classification/diagnosis, configuration/design, etc.), method-specific ontologies, application-specific ontologies, standardized primitives, interactive knowledge transformations o reuse of user-interface components: specification and/or generation of user-interfaces for knowledge use, explanation and knowledge acquisition o reuse methodologies and frameworks: architectures for reuse, added value with respect to traditional software engineering methods, comparisons of reuse methodologies o reuse experiments, discussion of advantages and drawbacks: successful (or non-successful) applications (problems, costs and benefits), evaluation of reuse methodologies, why is it that higher-level tools (e.g. method-specific shells) have hardly conquered the market and expert systems are still built with general tools or programming languages? The Knowledge Engineering Forum evolves from the former, annual European KADS Meetings and has extended its scope to all modeling approaches for knowledge based systems. The Forum will consist of invited talks, individual presentations, and will provide ample time for discussion on its special focus. Contributions could be either a research abstract or position paper of 2-4 pages or a full paper up to 12 pages (fewer pages are encouraged). A subset of the papers will be selected for presentations during the Forum. The Forum will also provide the opportunity for software demonstrations. Submit 3 copies of a paper (or announcement of a software demonstration) no later than February 10, 1995 to: Ute Gappa Karlsruhe University Institute of Logic D-76128 Karlsruhe Germany Tel. +49-721-608-4209 Fax. +49-721-60 77 21 email: gappa@ira.uka.de SUBMISSION DATES Submissions are due on February 10, 1995. Notification to the authors will be sent by March 1, 1995. Camera-ready copies to be included in the Forum proceedings must be received by March 15, 1995.
