It is a major event in computing in the country, and aims at disseminating both theoretical and practical results of research in the field. The symposium is now well-known for the quality of the technical papers and the tools presented in previous years, as well as the invited talks delivered by renowned international speakers. The X SBBD will be held at the Federal University of Pernambuco. Programmed activities include technical sessions, tutorials, industrial panels and tools demonstrations. The major topics of interest include, but are not limited to: - Database theory and algorithms - Human-computer interaction - DBMS implementation aspects - Object oriented databases - Active databases - Cooperative databases - Deductive databases - Extensible systems - Distributed databases - Spatial and temporal databases - Data modelling and database design techniques - Advanced applications REFEREED PAPERS: --------------- The symposium seeks for two types of papers: a) original contributions to the state-of-the-art (up to 15 pages) or b) tutorials (up to 25 pages). Papers may be written in English, Portuguese or Spanish. Tutorials must be classified by the authors in one of the topics above. Authors must send four copies of papers (no E-mail or FAX submissions) in A4 format (210 x 297 mm) with top margin 35mm, bottom margin 20mm and side margins 25 mm. They should include a short (150 words) abstract, list of descriptive keywords and complete contact information for the lead author (institution, address, fax number and email address). Submitted papers will be considered only if they have not been published previously and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere. The criteria for evaluation are originality, relevance, technical soundness and clarity of presentation. The best papers submitted will be considered for publication in the special April 1996 issue of the Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society, dedicated to Database Systems. TOOLS FAIR PROPOSALS -------------------- Tool demonstration proposals should suggest the demonstration of tools, systems and environments that represent the best of current research work or commercially available products. The submissions must include four copies of the tool description (up to three pages of text), as well as the hardware and software platforms required for the demonstration.
