The CoCoGEN project

National Research Agency program

The CoCoGen (Comparaison of Complete Genomes) project is a program of the French National Research Agency. It focuses on the complete genome alignment of bacteria.

Bioinformaticians, biologists and mathematicians have joined their forces to design novel alignment methods and statistical evaluation procedures that will allow to infer genomic regions that are either specific to a bacterial strain or shared among several strains. These tools shall improve bacterial genomic annotations and help to unravel the genome structure and its role in evolution.

CoCoGen project gathers teams from the National Institute for Agronomic Research (Unité Mathématique, Informatique et Génome, Unité Bactéries Lactiques et Pathogènes Opportunistes, INRA Jouy-en-Josas), the University of Lille, the University of Montpellier II and the National Center for Scientific Research (Laboratoire d'Informatique Robotique et Microélectronique de Montpellier, CNRS). It is coordinated by Eric Rivals (CNRS).

CoCoGen project is funded for three and a half year (February 2008 until August 2011) by the ANR.
