Robotics Department
The LIRMM's Robotics Department hosts 28 permanent teaching and research staff who are with University Montpellier 2, CUFR Nîmes, CNRS or INRIA. It hosts a visiting lecturer from the University Paris 7, too. Together, they advice  more than thirty doctoral students  coming from various countries (France, Brazil, Algeria, Tunisia, Romania, etc).

The department is organised in 5 project-teams: DEMARDEXTERICAR, IDH and EXPLORE, covering research in automatics, signal and image processing, and mechanical design. These project-teams focus on problems related to synthesizing, managing, and controlling complex dynamic systems (manipulators, mobile robots, human-robot interfaces). They also work on navigation, localization, and local-remote control of autonomous vehicles, image analysis, coding, and processing, as well as virtual and augmented reality.
The Robotics Department follows a “system” approach that goes from design to development, and from intelligent control mechanisms to complex software tools. It simultaneously addresses problems related to modeling (architecture, living, mechanisms, perceived objects…), design (mechanisms, software…), and control (robots, living…). The department also develops theoretical tools that make it possible to create advanced mechatronic systems effectively.
