FPGA-based IP-cores for image processing in space explorations
The talk will introduce a library of modular FPGA-based IP-cores for image processing, developed by Politecnico di Torino and ThalesAlenia Space. They are going to be used as hardware accelerators in next planetary missions, mainly as image processing during the Entry, Descent, & Landing phases. Experimental data gathered during both the design and the V&V steps will be provided.
Full professor of Computer Engineering at the Dipartimento di Automatica e Informatica of the Politecnico di Torino, Torino (Italy), and Adjoint Professor of the University of Illinois at Chicago, IL (USA).
Research activities mainly focused on Digital Systems Design & Test, System Dependability, FPGA-based Reconfigurable System Design, Assistive Technologies and ICT for people with disabilities.
President of CINI: Consorzio Interuniversitario Nazionale per l’Informatica: (a consortium participated by 39 Computer Engineering and Computer Science Italian Universities).
Vice-Chair of the IFIP Technical Committee TC 10 - Computer Systems Technology.
From 2010 to 2014: Member of the Scientific Committee of the French “Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique” (C.N.R.S.).
