CIRAD: Centre de Coopération Internationale en Reherche Agronomique pour le Développement

Main Activities:

Development of genetic and genomic information systems for tropical crops with a specific interest in interoperability between databases.
Comparative analysis of the organization of tropical crop genomes
Training in bioinformatics

Training:

The team organizes on request one week-training courses on "Initiation to Bioinformatics" for researchers and technicians involved in crop improvement. In 2006, such a training course was organized in Madagascar.

Objectives of the session: The trainees learn how to use the most common bioinformatic tools to find, compare, and align sequences. They are given the basic sequence analysis principles to allow a critical analysis of the obtained results, and determine the best strategies to solve the most common problems. Practice on computer is a key point of the training strategy.

In 2006, the team was composed of 6 permanent bioinformaticians and one bioinformatician on long-term contract.
