Congrats Pengfei for your defense and PhD!
Congratulations to Pengfei Wang on his successful PhD in Computer Science, which he defended on December 13, 2024. To our knowledge, it is the first PhD Defense within the ALPACA network / project.
In front of a jury led by Prof. Sven Rahmann from Saarland University (D), and composed of Drs Julien Clément, Grégory Kucherov, Sergey Kirgizov, Gilles Didier and myself, Pengfei gave a nice and didactic presentation of his doctoral contributions to the study of overlaps in words. After introducing the field of study, he summarized and explained several important combinatorial results about overlaps and periodicity in classical and degenerate strings.
After a long and lively discussion, with numerous prospective questions, the jury has awarded him the title of Doctor of the University of Montpellier, with his warm congratulations.
