The Société informatique de France (SIF) prize was created in 1998 to reward an excellent computer science thesis each year. Gilles Kahn, who chaired the first three juries, was convinced of the importance of promoting the most promising young talents in our discipline. In his honor, the prize was renamed the Prix de thèse Gilles Kahn in 2007. It is sponsored by the French Academy of Sciences, which pays tribute to one of its eminent members.
