In this interview, he discusses the scientific and technological challenges of the CMOS 2.0 program, which aims to prepare future generations of integrated circuits beyond the current limits of miniaturization.

“We are already working on chips that will be released by 2040”

This announcement echoes recent developments at the laboratory: LIRMM’s Microelectronics Department is participating in a European academic consortium led by IMEC, bringing together 26 university research groups focused on breakthrough technologies for integrated circuits. LIRMM teams are contributing to several research areas aimed at rethinking hardware architectures and computing paradigms for post-CMOS generations.

The visibility of this work in a leading media outlet confirms LIRMM’s role in European research dynamics in advanced microelectronics and in the development of technologies that will shape the semiconductor industry by 2040.
