Computer science and robotics at school from an early age!

MadalinaEcole

Following a collaboration between LIRMM, the Epsylon laboratory and the Faculty of Science, Madalina Croitoru, accompanied by four students from the Master of Computer Science program, demonstrated a talking robot to a class of first graders at the École Élémentaire Mermoz. The robot chatted with the children and helped them solve math problems. The robot was dressed as either a girl or a boy, and the experiment observed how the children changed their appreciation of girls’ and boys’ mathematical skills. Studies like this can help break down gender bias in mathematics from an early age and, at the same time, get children used to artificial intelligence and robots in a playful way.
