The CNRS Crystal Medal recognizes women and men working in research support roles who, through their creativity, technical expertise, commitment, and collaborative spirit, make an essential contribution to the advancement of knowledge and to the excellence of French research.
This year, the award honors Christophe Dhénaut, CNRS Research Engineer and Director of Services at the Montpellier Laboratory of Informatics, Robotics and Microelectronics (LIRMM – CNRS/University of Montpellier). Congratulations to him!
Holding a PhD in Molecular Physical Chemistry, Christophe Dhénaut chose early in his career to apply his skills to supporting research activities. After gaining experience in welcoming international researchers, scientific communication, and the development of interdisciplinary projects, he joined the LIRMM in 2009.
As Director of Services at the laboratory, he now oversees the administrative and technical organization of the unit, working closely with the scientific leadership. Leading a team of 44 staff members across seven services – finance, human resources, IT, logistics, communication, technology transfer, and scientific and technical information – he supports the 420 members of the LIRMM, enabling them to focus fully on their research activities.
Through his coordination and forward-looking approach, he contributes to the smooth running of the laboratory and to the development of ambitious scientific projects. This Crystal Medal recognizes his career, his daily commitment, and the vital role of research support professions in making scientific excellence possible.
“This is a true recognition of the work accomplished. It is also a way to highlight these behind-the-scenes professions, which are essential to the functioning of research laboratories – and whose effectiveness is measured precisely by the fact that we often do not see them,” explains Christophe Dhénaut.
