On June 25, 2026, the University of Montpellier celebrated its newly retired staff members during a ceremony held at the Jardin des Plantes. This annual event provides an opportunity to pay tribute to those who, through their dedication and hard work, have contributed to the development of the university and to the success of its missions in education, research, and public service.
Among those honoured this year were two distinguished members of the LIRMM: Christian Retoré and Christophe Dony, whose careers have made a lasting contribution to the history and scientific identity of the laboratory.
As researchers, educators, supervisors, and valued colleagues, they have witnessed and supported several decades of progress in computer science at the University of Montpellier. Through their scientific achievements, leadership responsibilities, and commitment to teaching, they have influenced generations of students, doctoral candidates, and fellow researchers.
Beyond their academic contributions, Christian Retoré and Christophe Dony have helped make the LIRMM a recognised centre for research, knowledge transfer, and innovation at both the national and international levels. Their dedication has enriched the laboratory’s scientific life and strengthened the collaborations that continue to shape its success.
During the ceremony, they were presented with the traditional olive tree, a symbol of peace, longevity, and transmission. This meaningful gesture reflects both the legacy they leave behind within the academic community and the many new projects and opportunities that lie ahead.
The entire LIRMM community extends its warmest thanks to Christian Retoré and Christophe Dony for their commitment, generosity, and invaluable contribution to the laboratory and its activities.
We wish them a happy and fulfilling retirement, filled with new discoveries, personal projects, and rewarding experiences.
